Imagine receiving a video call from a man in a police uniform. The background looks like a police station. He claims a parcel addressed to you was seized by Customs containing drugs or fake passports.
He tells you that you are under "Digital Arrest" and must not leave your room or disconnect the call until the investigation is over.
How the Scam Works
1. The Call: You get a call from an unknown number (often starting with IVR saying "Press 9").
2. The Threat: They claim your Aadhaar is linked to money laundering or a drug parcel.
3. The Visuals: They switch to video call. You see someone in a uniform (often fake setups).
4. The Extortion: To "verify" your funds or pay "bail", they ask you to transfer money to a "Secret Supervisory Account".
How RakshaLink Protects You
This scam relies on fear. RakshaLink relies on detection.
- Unknown Number Alert: RakshaLink flags suspicious patterns in incoming calls/messages.
- Link Scanning: If they send a "Court Order" link, our on-device AI scans it for phishing.
- Awareness: Just having the app reminds you that threats can be digital illusions.
What to do if you get such a call?
1. Cut the call immediately. Do not engage.
2. Do not panic. Real police will come to your door with a warrant, not call you on WhatsApp.
3. Report the number on the Chakshu Portal (Sanchar Saathi).
