The "Money Request" Scam: Never Enter PIN to Receive Money

If you are selling on OLX or Facebook Marketplace, watch out for this common trick.

You list un old sofa on OLX. A buyer calls immediately, agrees to the price, and says, "I will send the money via UPI QR code."

They send you a QR code on WhatsApp and ask you to scan it "to receive the payment".

🛑 Golden Rule: You NEVER need to scan a QR code or enter your UPI PIN to receive money. PIN is only for sending money.

How It Works

1. The scammer sends a "Collect Request" or a QR code.

2. The notification might say "Pay ₹5000" but they tell you it means "Receive ₹5000".

3. In a hurry, you authorize the request.

4. Instead of getting ₹5000, ₹5000 is deducted from your account.

RakshaLink's Defense

RakshaLink scans incoming notifications for payment requests. If it detects a "Collect Request" pattern from an unknown number on WhatsApp or SMS, it alerts you:

"Warning: This looks like a payment request. Do not enter your PIN if you are expecting to receive money."
